Tobacco remains the leading cause of preventable death and disability in our community. Despite our reputation as a healthy city and state, smoking rates in Denver remain high compared to other urban areas.
On March 22, Mr. Ritney Castine discussed how Truth Initiative’s mission to "speak, seek and spread the truth about tobacco through education, tobacco control research and policy studies, and community activism and engagement," can help foster the first tobacco-free generation.
Annual Sbarbaro Memorial Lecture Series
The 2015 Dr. John Sbarbaro Memorial Lecture Series in Public Health was held Wednesday, November 4, 2015, from 11:30 am to 1 pm at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. This lecture series honors Dr. John Sbarbaro, who was a pioneer in improving the health of Denver and beyond.
The Speaker was Senator William Frist, M.D.. Senator Frist is a nationally-acclaimed heart and lung transplant surgeon, former U.S. Senate Majority Leader, and chairman of the Executive Board of the health service private equity firm Cressey & Company.

His discussion reviewed recent trends and challenges in the use of data and health information technology at both the regional and national level.
