Denver Public Health Grand Rounds

Each quarter Denver Public Health holds a grand rounds lecture on a different public health topic for its employees, staff, partners and colleagues. Past topics have included sexual health, the results accountability framework, access to care/care coordination, digital and social media's role in public health, and creating a culture of health in America.

Slides from the June 2016 Grand Rounds: Health Equity Lecture Now Available

On June 24, Dr. Edward Ehlinger, MD, MSPH, Commissioner, Minnesota Department of Health, President, Association of State and Territorial Health Officials, presented "Advancing Health Equity and Optimal Health for All". Dr. Ehlinger discussed the Triple Aim of Health Equity as well as public health's vital role in health equity activities in our communities. The slide set from the lecture is available for reference or for those unable to attend the event in person.

Watch the March 2016 Grand Rounds: The First Tobacco-free Generation

Tobacco remains the leading cause of preventable death and disability in our community. Despite our reputation as a healthy city and state, smoking rates in Denver remain high compared to other urban areas. 

On March 22, Mr. Ritney Castine discussed how Truth Initiative’s mission to "speak, seek and spread the truth about tobacco through education, tobacco control research and policy studies, and community activism and engagement," can help foster the first tobacco-free generation. Annual Sbarbaro Memorial Lecture Series

The 2015 Dr. John Sbarbaro Memorial Lecture Series in Public Health was held Wednesday, November 4, 2015, from 11:30 am to 1 pm at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. This lecture series honors Dr. John Sbarbaro, who was a pioneer in improving the health of Denver and beyond.

The Speaker was Senator William Frist, M.D.. Senator Frist is a nationally-acclaimed heart and lung transplant surgeon, former U.S. Senate Majority Leader, and chairman of the Executive Board of the health service private equity firm Cressey & Company.

Slides from Public Health Informatics Lecture Now Available

On August 3, Dr. Arthur Davidson presented "Public Health Informatics - Are We There Yet?" His discussion reviewed recent trends and challenges in the use of data and health information technology at both the regional and national level. Dr. Davidson's slide set is  now available for reference or for those unable to attend his talk in person.

Recap of March 2015 Lecture: Joining Forces to Improve Health Outcomes in Metro Atlanta

On Wednesday, March 4, Karen Minyard, PhD, Executive Director, Georgia Health Policy Center, Associate Research Professor, Public Management and Policy, Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, Georgia State University, spoke about the growing movement to change the culture of health care in America.
